Credit 4
Recycled Content 1-2 Possible Points
According to U.S. Green
Building Council® LEED 2009 for New Construction and
Major Renovations, the intent of this credit is “ to
increase demand for building products that incorporate
recycled content materials, thereby reducing impacts
resulting from extraction and processing of virgin
materials.” (LEED 2009 for New Construction and Major
Renovations, Page 52).
The steel used in
Flexospan’s panels typically contains an average
post-consumer recycled content of 25.5% and an average
post-industrial (pre-consumer) recycled content of 6.8%
based on data published by the Steel Recycling Institute
(November 2009).
This value is
based on data from the Steel Recycling Institute
publication “Steel Takes LEED® with Recycled Content”
(March 2009). Because of unique project circumstances,
it is the responsibility of your LEED project team to
determine if your project is eligible for certification
and whether Credit 4 for Recycled Content points
will be available for the Flexospan product supplied to
your particular project.
